Happiness is one thing that everyone wants. Having it is so powerful that it affects almost everything in your life. Your happiness impacts your sleep, your relationships, your health and your work. Happiness is the highest form of wellness. Many people equate happiness with success. Success and happiness are not the same thing. Happiness may bring success, but success alone will not bring happiness. It comes from within. It is a mindset. No “thing” in and of itself will bring lasting happiness if you do not change the way you think.
Being a truly happy person is freeing. It allows you to be yourself, be true to your beliefs and live an authentic life. When you make choices based on what you believe is right as opposed to doing something to please another or because you feel someone else expects it of you, it is very liberating.
Happy people understand the importance of taking time for themselves. Self love is not selfish. Plan something every day for you, that you look forward to. It can be as simple as coffee or tea with a friend, reading a good book, or just time to relax and unwind.
Because happiness is contagious, spend time with people who are positive, support you and you enjoy being with. Negative people can be very draining and can zap your good energy very quickly. It also helps to surround yourself with things that make you happy. Photos of loved ones, sentimental objects, anything that sparks happiness when you look at it.
I believe when you are happy anything is possible. It is a choice. Live each day with gratitude for the big and small things in your life. Focus on what you have, and appreciate having it. Happy people don’t have the best of everything, they make the best of what they have.
